I bought a new used lathe with a bed that was about 5 inches taller than the one it replaced. The lathe table was already in place and not able to be height adjusted. So! A little Styrofoam and some bug eaten pine and I had a very cost effective platform. It is about 30 inches by 14 inches by 5 1/2 inches high. It works well – no sing of Styrofoam collapse under my 200 Lbs. + (specifics will not be provided). It is not pretty but very functional. Easy to slide out of the way.

Great solution. You want to be comfortable at the lathe or you get fatigued!!
