A few weeks ago I had travelled to my home province of Manitoba for a few days visit with my brother who runs the family farm near Oakburn. More importantly I was attending the 50th Anniversary since I graduated from the Faculty of Argiculture at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. It suddenly dawned on me that I am getting pretty old!!!!
The trip was marvellous and I was able to visit with a few of my relatives and cousins and especially fellow graduates.
While visiting the family farm my brother allowed me to scrounge a few pieces of maple wood, a chunk of ash, a log of juniper, and a block of poplar from his wood supply for his fireplace.
Picture one shows r. juniper, ash, poplar and two large pieces of maple.
Picture two, boot blanks for carving.
Picture three, Close-up of juniper blanks(6).
Picture four, Two ash blanks.
Picture five, Completed poplar (aspen) boot.
Picture six, Maple wood blanks, three blanks with one weird one and a remaining hollow log just for show. This piece was in a serious stage of decay so I wasn’t able to make a boot pattern. Also in the first picture the log on the right was also in serious decay so was discarded to the sawdust bin. I needed to get that wood probably 10 years earlier. C’est la vie!
Wish me luck as I will be making a lot of sawdust come the next few weeks. Will report my progress as things get done.

Roman, I have always admired your work and could always write the same positive comments. That would probably bore you soon. So far, I’ve probably missed the reference to your book. But I just ordered it at Amazon. de from a British retailer. I am looking forward to the delivery of the book! One day I’m gonna try to create my version of a shoe with power- and/or handtools.
