Brass hammer "The Chub" and some file handles

I’ve been on a tool-making kick. I saw these little brass hammers that people use for making dovetails, I think. It looked fun, so I bought a 1” dia. brass round rod, and got to work. I also turned a few file handles for some files that have been sitting around but that I don’t use often because they have no handles. The handles are all turned from some white oak. The brass head is wedged in with a little scrap of ebony. All of them finished with some oil wax.
I call the hammer “The Chub.” It has a surprising amount of blow for how small it is. I think I’ll have fun chiseling with it.

Next post will be a dead-blow mallet I’m working on. Then maybe I’ll get to actually building a project with all my new tools :-)

Nice little hammer. That head should be heavy enough for good chiseling!!

cheers, Jim
