I built this Red Oak dress for my Grandkids and matches a taller one made a couple of years ago.

It is made of quartersawn red oak. The drawers are 5/8” ash with dovetailed corners. The drawers and inside of the cabinet were finished with shellac to keep the smell down. The outside was done with multiple coats of wipe on poly.

Well done , it is a great piece of work, Just a question, should we finish the inside of a cabinet or not, and does shellac help with smell inside drawers. Thanks and keep on making sawdust.

I actually prefinished with shellac the drawer parts before cutting the dovetails and putting them together. There is no smell at all to the drawers and inside. I also put a coat of shellac to seal a few of the internal parts. The side panels and top were finished with poly on both sides.

This is another beautiful piece and so nicely done. It exhibits a lot of nice craftsmanship.

Stellar job on the dresser, Redoak….I like it..!! You can never have enough storage, even for clothes….I’m sure the grandkids will get plenty of use from it…..Good and solid furniture….That’s the kind I like to build, also…..
