Here is a hickory cane I finished recently. The handle is from the root ball and has an interesting burled appearance. I shaped finger and thumb grips, trying for some what of a molten wax look. The leaves and flower patterns are based on old leather working patterns. I shaped and carved the reliefs using a utility knife, gouges, and a rotary flex-shaft tool. I then used a wood burning pen with various tips for shading and finished up with a wash of acrylic paints and a few coats of poluurethane. Man, that hickory is tough stuff! Thanks for looking.

Great looking cane. Nice carving.
