Spalted Birch Bowl

This is a bowl I recently finished up. I don’t get to turn a lot of Birch up here in the mountains so this was a fun and challenging piece to work with. Birch is a much softer wood then I am used to working with and with it being spalted and punky it was even worse. I had to rough turn this piece and then soak it in Generals Finishes Sanding Sealer to harden up the grain before I could finish it. Once the sanding sealer dried it took me only a couple of cuts to clean up the shape and surface. This bowl is about 7” x 4”

Looks like the sanding sealer did it’s job, nice finish!
