A camphor box i made with my new jet 1642 lathe :) i absolutely love the lathe!!!
I got the wood from a craigslist posting, when i got there, most of the good stuff was gone buut the guy was very nice and he liked the fact i was a kid so he gave me a whole bunch of wood. So now i have some live oak, a huge piece of rosewood, three more huge pieces of camphor, and a bit of monkey pod.
This box was sanded to 400, and then coated with beeswax because it was still wet. The lid fits nice and tight.

Please post any comments or critiques as i am still learning.
Thanks, Mike

How did you like the aroma from the camphor? Nasal cleansing isn’t it! I love this wood and would turn it a lot more if it wasn’t for the strong odor. I can stand it for a while then I have to leave the shop but the wife won’t let me in the house cause the odor permeates my clothes. Good thing my shop is a separate building.

“I’m just a kid”

How old? That is some really nice work, friend. Even for an old timer.

Thank You!
That camphor has the strongest aroma from a wood i’ve ever smelled! Haha the funny thing is when the guy gave it to me, he said “be careful, this stuff can get you high”. Is that true?? or was he just messing with me? I did get a headache after turning but i doubt it could get you high?

4woodturning, i’d love to see what that looks like, be sure to post pictures!

I am a 14 year old ;) i have probably turned <10>t spent very many hours on the lathe, due to school and the fact that i was using a 1948 logan lathe, which was originally intended to turn screws. so i was kinda limited..

Fantastic job no mater how old (or young) you are. You are off to a great start.

Keep it up.
