So not a real challenging wood project but it was fun. My wife brought home an old antique window from the nursery where she works. She wanted the antique window incorporated into a plant stand in some way.

The window’s wooden frame was in pretty bad shape. One of the two glass panes was barely in place. Amazingly the glass was still in tact. The window had been sitting on the ground and had a ton of mud clinging to the wooden frame and part of the frame had rotted away.

I took the frames apart, removed the mud, cleaned the frames up and put the frames back together. I put the panes back in the frames with some new caulking.

My wife told me I could have fun with the project so I decided to try my hand at the steampunk look for the frame with steel pipes. A couple of douglas fir 2×6’s came into play as the shelves on the pipe frame. I came up with a design using 12” pipes for the width to allow for the 2 X 6’s. After putting the frame together I cleaned the pipe with some Acetone then painted the frame flat black. The 2 X 6’s were cut to length then run through my jointer/planer for glue up. Lastly a profile was cut into the edges of the wood on my router table.

I slapped it all together, put the plant stand in place then hung the windows above the plant stand. Looks pretty good.
