"Sing" Inspired Toy Guitar

My two daughters (ages 6 & 3) recently fell in love with the movie Sing, and more specifically the guitar playing punk rock character Ash. After watching the movie about 6 thousand times my older girl Meadow was asking for her own guitar to ay along with the movie. So I figured we would make a father/daughter experience out of it and build our own.

I had a scrap piece of 3/8” plywood that we used, but first we had to cut it to length on the CSMS. I held Meadows hands while she cut it down, and after that cut her little heart felt like it was beating out of her chest. Then we sketched up the design and cut it out using a jig saw. I did the curves and then helped her do the neck and top. After we cut it out we put a hole in the middle with a spade bit, which she also did. A little bit of sanding g and we were ready for paint.

I asked her what colors she wanted to do, and she said pink and yellow (obviously). I also found that sharpee makes paint pens in metallic gold and silver, which I thought would be perfect for the frets. Pics 4 and 5 show Meadow taping and painting the lightning bolt design. Pic 6 is of Daphne all dressed up and ready to rock.

I realize that this is my 100th project posted, and I’m glad that the project is more special than the number.

Thanks for looking, as always comments welcome and replied to!

Thanks Tony. We had a lot of fun, and more importantly she got to build the most important thing of all- confidence.

(Her little heart beating out of her chest) I could imagine what she felt when you started it up. Glad your daughter pulled through and you her got the job done. The excitement must of kept her going.
Nice looking guitar with a great story.

Thanks for all the nice comments, gentlemen. Sometimes I look at my kids and cant believe how big they are getting. I’m sure that those of you with kids understand what I mean. It’s super cool to be able to have projects like this to share with them as they grow.
