Well-intentioned bread knife (cherry)

I grabbed a well-seasoned cherry limb for this, not realizing that it was a little rotten until after the epoxy had dried. :(

I tried carving anyway, but it had a lot of soft spots, and didn’t sand up well. (The pics give it more justice than it deserves.)

Too bad, since it is pretty wood—just not strong enough to make anything out of.

The shape came out fine. If you have soft spots, that is a good chance to use an inlay like turquoise and CA glue to make it stand out!! Even black inlay would look good. I use epoxy and hit it with a spritz of black spray paint to make black epoxy and it comes out looking good!!
