Here’s yet another crib that leveraged the plans from Wood Magazine’s 3-in-1 crib plans. This crib was made for our 7th grandchild, my youngest daughter’s first! (A crib I had made in 2008 is still being used!) All the oak for the crib had been harvested previously (and air-dried for years) from the farm owned by my son-in-law’s grandfather!

One of the modifications I made to Wood’s plans was to make the left and right sides out of solid wood panels rather than plywood ones the plans called for. They were made as floating panels (as you would make cabinet doors) to allow for expansion.

When it came time to final assembly, assembling the many slats was challenging (as others noted) but having a second set of hands at this point did help.

Regarding the barrel nuts and bolts… After initially struggling with these for a short while, we got a novel idea that simplified this step tremendously!! We used an inspection mirror, a flashlight, AND AN EXTREMELY STRONG RARE-EARTH MAGNET to get the barrel nuts aligned with the bolts! Using the flashlight and mirror, we looked into the holes through which the barrel nuts were inserted to orient each nut correctly to the hole for its matching bolt. Once the barrel nut was oriented correctly, we simply placed a rare-earth magnet next to the nut, on the outside of the wooden rail in which it was placed, and the magnet held it in place until the bolt was started! SIMPLE!

Beautiful work! I am staging a home for sale right now and thought I would “add” a baby room for my prospective buyers!
