I have 2 daughters, so I had to build another box. This one is constructed with box joints and a dado for the bottom to fit into. I did some reading and found a simple jig for cutting the mortises for the hinges. It only took an hour to build (I forgot to take a picture), but worked great with a flush trim router bit and my trim router. The hinges on this one fit much better and the cover aligned perfectly. I just need to burn her name in the top now.

Very pretty box. I like the symmetry in the top!

Nicely done, I have never tried to make box joints, will have to do that sometime, I think one needs a special saw blade with a flat tooth.

They do make a Finger joint set of blades. I don’t have one, I only have a wobble dado blade that I use. Hopefully upgrade some day.,41080,41165&ap=1

Ben, nice work. It will look even better when you put a finish on it.

I like the alternate colour detailings that you did at the top of the storage box. They help to create a signature look which makes the design pop. The initials add a perfect personal touch which is what every personal gift needs at the end.
