Small keepsake boxes

I had some ash scraps after doing some re-sawing. Rather than squirrel them away for future use like I usually do I made some small boxes for a friend’s daughters. The tops are two layers of 1/8” baltic birch plywood. The names were scrolled out of the top piece and a bottom piece was glued to the back. I packed mahogany epoxy wood filler into the scrolled names and sanded it flush after it dried. It helps to pre finish the top before scrolling so the color from the epoxy filler doesn’t get into the pores of the plywood. The dark trim is wild mango.

Very nice boxes. You did a great job on the names too.

Beautiful boxes!

”...It helps to pre finish the top before scrolling so the color from the epoxy filler doesn’t get into the pores of the plywood…”

And I learn something new. Thanks!

Nicely done. A gift that will make an impact for years. The scroll work is very well done. Lettering is very difficult but you nailed it. Or as it were glued it.

If this was done on a larger scale, it would be a beautiful stool with an underneath storage. I think the names are perfect for personal gifts and add a nice detailing to the end product. Without it, they would have still looked stunning and timeless.
