Mission Wall Clock

A friend/coworker of my wife retired from teaching this year. I recently saw a post here from ArthurS for his wall Mission clock. I really liked the design and thought that it would be a nice retirement gift for her. Arthur was kind enough to provide a Sketchup that he had as well as some additional information to help out so thanks to him for that.

I made my version from some scrap QSWO that I had laying around from another project a while back. I had to resaw some of it to get it to size but other than hardware and the clock parts it didn’t cost a thing but some sweat. There wasn’t a whole lot of rays in some of it but it shines through every once in a while.

It measures 12” x 4” and will hang on the wall using a french cleat. The clock parts came from Klockit. It has no stain or dye. I had considered trying my first go at fuming but found out that I had a time limit so I just sanded to 320 and then sprayed it with 5 coats of satin lacquer. I like the subtle sheen of satin. I’m pretty happy with it. I think she’ll like it as well.

Nice Scott, you wood selection flows nicely throughout and the natural finish looks great.
I wish I had some 8/4 QSWO “scraps” to play with 8^)

Thanks. I hadn’t used satin finish before until another recent project and really liked the almost “no-finish” look. Unless you catch it at an angle it’s like there’s nothing there but you can feel it. I know, sounds strange….
