Dedicated this box to my basset hound Maxwell. He was sleeping under the shaper the whole time I was making this. He also smelled all the walnut involved to make sure it was up to doggy standards.
The body is walnut and the lid is white ash.
I made both sides and both front and back a full 6 inches. I added a 3rd dado for the upper compartments bottom and I then took the front piece and cut it into 3 pieces magically leaving me with a draw face and an upper and lower face frame!
I banded the top of the draw face with ash to make up the 8th inch gap. and it looks nice.
The drawer is hand dovetailed on the back. The whole box is finished with two coats of danish oil and one good helping of wax.
The interior is all finished with felt.

That’s a nice looking box. Walnut and ash make for a good combination.
