The wood used in this project is Spalted Hackberry in which I’m starting to run short of on the larger slabs. Nogal was used for the drawer pulls, splines and hinges.

The false bottom door is accessed by way of magnets inside of a small tray used as the key and be hidden drawer is held in place also by a magnet

This design is the same design as my previous projects only changes made were the use of Mike’s (littlecope) hinge design and moving away from the flocking by squaring up the rounded inside corners allowing for felt fabric to be installed. I only wish I had thought of it sooner, it has saved me from access overhead, paint fumes and the extra 24 hour dry time of the paint used for the flocking.

Thanks for viewing.

Hello Blackie,
The comments as above are all fully supported, so I wont duplicate them.

The timber is certainly full of features, no wonder you are starting to run short of it.
Your design comment had me going through your other projects to view them, it was then I noticed some are corrupted and was going to PM you then saw the work in progress action comment. I hope to see them back real soon.

I also do flocking but found as you its “messy” and it is not very durable over time when subjected to daily wear and tear, so I went for felt mounted on thin MDF and intereference fitted inside so it can be removed easly if required.
A very nice complementary design for the project.

Another great box, I love those secret compartments and that wood is beautiful. (My neighbors have a giant hackberry in their yard – if It falls in my yard I will share it with you – LOL). Nice color combination with the Nogal and flocking. Thanks for posting.

It’s you! Did you use the Kiefer clamps? I’m doing my day job and doing maintenace projects . Starting on rotting fence posts after taking down my picket rails, which I made. Now the heavy duty 2×4 rails are bowed. Sigh!

Thanks everyone one, Jim, Rob, Larry, Tony, Leafherder, Tyvekboy, Tom and Bob.

Rob, on the projects yes it’s a slow going task. :)

Tom, yes I used Kiefer’s clamps, they work great! I had been out of my shop for the past couple months doing home projects as you are doing, not to mention I just had arthroscopic knee surgery still in the recovery stage.
