Here are the last two spinners that found a loving home .
The first picture is a all wood construction with a wooden axel and computer parts for a grip and some stainless socket head bolts heads cut off so both sides look the same and add some weight for flywheel action and it spins well .
The second picture is of nylon construction with a 1603 bearing dust shields removed and degreased.
I added brass rod and a 5/16” rod with a couple tooth paste tube caps to this one and it spins like crazy .

Good idea to use the Harddisk bearing. At least when I’m right it is the HD bearing. I soon will give it a try also. Remarkable that spinners are hot at more parts of the world at the same time.
Nice Klaus!

As they say in Boston Wicked Cool! I bet your making some young folks and most likely some adults too very happy with your outstanding spinners!

Jim do you still stand by what you posted today?
“I see a lot of those spinners and they give them to kids to waste their time. I think they would be better off giving kids a broom, rake, snow shovel or a saw to do something productive. I feel they are going the wrong way with kids now a days!
My 2 cents worth!!

I see these as a tool for someone to cope better, while in the classroom- learning. I say this as a teacher in a classroom. Also, do they learn by making these with Granpa?

I don’t know who the young man in the picture is, but I think that is to throw us off as to who these are really for.
YOU, Mr Kiefer. LOL
Both are very nice but I’ll stick with the wood one. Sure is a lot of fun going on in that shop lately. These are probably for your helpers. Nice job.

Give a kid a broom etc. as desert_woodworker said so time was not being wasted. the idea is good but unless an adult develops a relationship with the young person and works with them it is not going to happen. I doubt there are very many parents are willing to work with there kids every day. Anyway beats the computer screen, not that they are going to solve that problem. I can see them spinning as they look on.

Yes and thank you for the comment- I use mine while reading these posts. And I put it down, when typing a response, which is what I see in the classroom. When it is time to take a test- spinners and PHONES disappear.
I wish to thank Klaus for making the “fidget widget”, popular with his spinners, on Lumber Jocks. Enjoy for it is a changing world.

I’m not quite sure what these are? Purpose?
Ok reading through the comments I got the picture, I’ve never seen nor heard of them, at least they’re not common down here in Texas.

Very nice, but from a teacher’s perspective please do not let it go to school with a student. These spinners pose a huge distraction and can pose a safety hazard especially in a shop environment.

Thanks all for all the interesting comments and I appreciate them very much.
Here are my thoughts on this subject .
If I want to make something with my Grandkids I better find a project that interest them !
Fidget spinners are the cool thing right now and are easy to make and fast enough to make to keep the kids attention span but also introduce them to and teach them woodworking .
Spinners in my opinion are not much different then spinning tops that we played with as kids .
I can understand the teachers point of view and agree that spinners have no place in the classroom .
One thing I try to instill into kids young and old is Construct don’t Destruct !!!!!!
