My Cub Scouts made wooden fidget spinners using recycled bench wood (purple heart, I think) and maple (an old baby crib). We degreased roller skate bearings, drilled holes in wood planks, did a little shaping, then inserted 5/8” steel ball bearings into the holes that aren’t occupied by the degreased bearings. I had their undivided attention for the entire meeting.

Cub Scouts go from 1st grade to 5th grade.
Nice job on the spinners.
My youngest got one from Kroger for $7, bearings were stamped ABEC-9, I cannot get ABEC-7 bearings for less than $20 each. The Chinese must use a different ABEC scale.

The ages for Cub Scouts are 6-12 years. My Den is full of 9-year olds. I did the wood working and they did the assembly. My 7/8” Forstner bit made the hole for bearings. We used 5/8” solid metal balls for the weights. Apparently, one was confiscated at school, so I know the boys were using them!
