This is a spin-off of the simple cell phone stand I did last year. I started to make a recipe card holder for my wife and didn’t like how it was turning out (she still thought it was fantastic) and she suggested that I make one for her mom. I put it off at Christmas and decided to actually make it for Mother’s Day. In my stack of walnut I found this piece with this great figure in it and decided that it was going to be the right piece. The “stand” portion is basically a through tenon with a kerf cut into the front ledge to hold the recipe card. There are definitely some flaws with the mortise but it was great practice for me. Finished with multiple coats of shellac.
