Turned Plate or Portrait

Turned this plate from a salvaged piece of Laural oak. It had some interesting inclusions and great red feathering. It was turned wet, not really green because it was from a dead (maybe “near dead”) tree that was removed from neighbor’s yard. It’s about 10” dia. finished with tung oil. I love watching this wood move. It is even more of a potato chip now than when these pics were taken. The feathered wood is what really gets the piece moving. I had not noticed the face until I saw the first picture.

Great capturing of the face in the grain. Fantastic coloring to this piece. I like it when they move.

Keep it up.

Thanks all.
Scrappy, Liz,
I wish I could take credit but I didn’t capture anything. The wood gave it up to me. That’s the beauty of it.

The face looks like the Alien from the movie Cocoon, nice piece of wood though
