I made this Urn for my little sister. This was my first attempt at making anything on my lathe. She was 35 when she passed so I made this with 35 segments using Curly Maple. I wasn’t sure on how to do it so I cut and planed 35 wedges that fit together, then I cut the profile shape out if every wedge with my band-saw. I glued all the cut wedges together and then clamped it by completely wrapping it with a very long bungee cord. It worked perfectly. I carved a simple snowflake into the lid and added the phrase, “It’s all good” on the bottom because that was her philosophy. This was extremely difficult to make because it was within days of her passing. It was finished in 2 days, then I made her headstone. I hand etched the everything onto a piece of black granite, painted white into the etch-marks and scraped off the excess all in one day. The grass along the bottom spells out “It’s all good” the bumblebee is the dot in the “i” – This was 9 years ago and I think of her everyday.

Well done John. A difficult job bit a labour of love with memories at every turn. I made one for my mom five years ago and I can say the same.
Some jobs are just more significant than others.

Like the snowflake, I’d say that is one of a kind. I’m certain your sister is pleased.

Really beautiful John. I know your sister loves her new home for the all of eternity. I know my three sisters love theirs.

Well, I’m sorry for your loss but it certainly is a beautiful urn. I love all of the nice details and craftsmanship.
