I had the miter saw set up on a fixed station. I loved the support, however, I found that it took up a huge footprint in my shop. I also wanted the flexibility to roll it outside on nice days so that the dust wouldn’t be an issue inside. I was originally going to go with a narrow cart and use a roller stand to provide support. Instead, I built in cantilevered extensions and, including the deck of the saw, I wound up with 35” to the left and 27” to the right. I can always supplement this with a roller stand if needed. If the extensions sag I will frame them underneath but I had similar extensions on the fixed station for 3 years with no issues. I used locking casters for stability. Plan to add shelves and doors down the line.

That came out really nice Robin.
Rolling it outside is a nice option to have.

I am building one of these stands because of the foot print issue and I am going add folding wings to the sides just in case I need to cut longer boards on it…you could also add the hinged/folding wings if/when needed
