This was a fun project I have been wanting to make for a long time. I had planed some cedar for a friend a few months ago. He had seven old utility poles sawed up for siding. He gave me a couple of boards, so I thought this would be a good time to make our new mail box. The plan is from Wood magazine no. 86 Feb.1996. The finish is 3 coats of Minwax indoor/outdoor Helmsman Spar Urethane clear satin. This finish was very easy to use. I usually have a hard time with finish using a brush, but this turned out very nice. My mail carrier loves it.

My mother just asked me a couple weeks ago to make her a mailbox. I guess they get a lot and need something bigger than what they have. I think she wants one that is actually larger than the one you ahve built. That is all she said, she has left the rest of the ideas up to me.

I hope you won’t mind, but I like your idea and I would like to incorporate some of your idea into what she asked for.

Thank you for posting it.
