I finally finished a keepsake box for niece. This was my first try at different building techniques. The box is made out of Red Cedar and Hard Maple. All of the lumber was rough sawn so I learned how to plan and joint all of the pieces to prep for glue up. I wanted to add a little more contrast to the box so I decided to add some Maple splines. That was a little difficult because I didn’t have a proper jig set up for cutting the splines in the box. After seeing how cool they looked on this box I will definitely have to build a spline jig before my next box project.

Nice job. I like the look of the cedar and maple. Check out the Drunken Woodworker site. He has a video on making a nice spline jig. Made one a few months ago and have used it a few time so far. Works well and easy to make from scraps.
