This is a wedding gift I made for my cousin and his soon to be bride. All solid black walnut and hand dovetails.
There’s a blog on the progress here: http://www.westfallwoodcraft.com/2017/04/walnut-turntable-stand.html
A friend said that this piece is like something you’d see in a gallery. I can’t disagree. I’ve come a long ways in this craft. It’s very rewarding.
As I mentioned in the blog, I only have a few possessions from my father. One is his guitar. As a teen I found the hand written words to this song in the guitar case. I guess he like to play it. Now I dedicate it to the bride and groom.

Beautiful figure featured on the door, Red! Are the proud dovetails pillowed or chamfered? Where and how did you sign the piece? Congratulations to the couple. May God bless their union.

So nice, Red.
Didn’t know about your guitar. What is it? I inherited a 1949 Gibson J50 from my grandfather. It is the coolest thing I own.

Beautiful work as always BRK.
I’m curious, how do you determined the orientation of the dovetails on a carcass?
If it is a wall hanging case, the tails are oriented to prevent the top/bottom from pulling out or dropping down (vertical resistance), correct? Yet in this instance since the carcass is supported by legs/floor so would the tails be most effective if they were oriented to prevent the side being pushed outward? Or is it strictly a visual preference that is the determining factor?

Wow!! That is a wonderful piece and a great gift. You really extracted the best qualities possible out of that walnut, the grain is beautiful especially the piece you chose for the door. I love it, burly walnut is just so striking, and the dovetails are perfect for it.
