For a long time now my daughters have been using sawhorses to put saddles on and play that they are riding horses. I have been thinking that it would be nice to make something that better resembles a real horse and presented an idea to my father in law. Coincidentally he had a pine log that we could use for this purpose. A piece of the log was provided with legs that were simply knocked into 3’’ holes (around 4’’ deep) that I drilled. A neck was mounted the same way and then a scrapped piece from a log wall served as a head after some mild sculpting with a chain saw. Old sisal rope was used for the tail and mane. The kids were super happy with the result, especially since they could participate during the whole process and come with design suggestions.

Very creative. It seems that children always ask for a pony or horse – with this one you don’t have to worry about feeding or cleaning stalls. Thanks for posting.

Well that’s a fine looking wooden horse—I’m sure the kids will have hours of fun riding it!
