This rocker is made of Texas Honey Mesquite which is quite evident because of the front bowed legs. For esthetics the seat is rounded on the bottom which does also give more comfort. I left the center keel off the seat which has, in most cases, gone unnoticed. We had visitors to our home the other night and one of them took a particular licking to this rocker over the several other rockers. One thing he liked is the more upright balance I built into the seating position. He is a college professor and likes reading which goes a long way in explaining why he likes the upright balance.
The real reason I posted this rocker is the Maloof finish of Tung Oil and Bees Wax. I made this rocking chair some fifteen years ago and have never had to renew the finish. I dust it as needed, but the finish is as good as new without the glossy appearance of sprayed on lacquer. I love the luster of fine furniture this finish gives. You can find the directions on how to make and apply this finish in my FREE text, just send me an email to [email protected] and I will send same.

I wish I could see the finish. The pictures seem like the they’re a bit out of focus, maybe? Very blurry for me, anyway.
I had always heard that Sam Maloof’s finish was a blend of tung oil, linseed oil, and polyurethane? You’re saying you used just tung oil and beeswax? Interesting. I’d like to hear more.

I always love your work.
First 2 pictures did come out blurred for some reason.
I hope your health is better.

Not much of a picture taker, but will try again today.

A fine looking Maloof rocker—and an interesting choice with the Mesquite!
