My first chest of drawers

What a project this was! I learned so much and put my skill set to the test and then some. I almost think I should pay my customer for all the things I learned building these, I do have two more to build for the same customer. First question that always get’s asked is what kind of wood is that? It’s all eastern red cedar except for the drawer bottoms and back, that’s 1/4-in Lauan. I learned how to build drawers with out screws thanks to my dove tail jig. Getting the jig dialedin right was a little time consuming, but works like a charm now. The dressers stand 40” tall and 40” wide at the top, the sides are 34” wide. All finished with a polyurethane finish (5 coats).

Awesome job.

I am not a fan of making drawers. But it is part of what we do.

-- Nature created it, I just assemble it.

Looks great! Reminds me of the furniture one would see at a little mom and pop motel in the Great Smoky Mountains back in the 1950s. Good job.

Todd, those are amazing. I absolutely love the colour of that Cedar, and your finish really makes them “POP”.
Great job Buddy.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.
