Here is a bed that I just finished tonight. I made it from 4/4 Alder. The head board and foot board are made with tongue and groove panels and Beadlock loose Tenon’s. The posts are 4-4/4 boards glued up and trimmed down to size. I finished it off with minwax natural stain and a hand rubbed wax. I had some sort of reaction happen with the stain and wax. I don’t know what happened, but the bed looks like it is distressed now. I think I like it! The stain almost appears as if it is worn from use or something. It is my first large furniture project and I had so much fun building it. There is something to be said about spending numerous hours building something and feeling relaxed & stress free when it is complete. Thanks for looking

Your bed looks great. I’m sure your son will get many happy years use out of it. Well done.

Good looking bed and son. I’m sure he will be excited about it seeing as his Dad made it for him.

Nice bed, my son just turned 1 so I got something like this coming soon.

Good and sturdy build.
It will have to be, I can see him climbing on to the top of the headboard and jumping on to the matress while reaching up to try and reach the ceiling as he comes down…
Man, that used to be so fun….

Thanks for posting

Looks great and so does your son. I am making a bed for my wife now with 3 inch square posts and trying to figure out a top for the posts. I may copy your idea.

My posts are a shade under 3”, I topped them a 4” square block about 1 5/8” thick. I put a 18 degree bevel on top with the TS and the chamfered about 5/8” off of the bottom. Super simple. I then used my Rockler Beadlock Jig and some loose tenon stock to attach them to the top. I tried to use as few fasteners as possible. The beadlock jig is a great tool and easy to use.
