I was tired of keeping all the scrap pieces that I tell myself I will use in buckets and bins all over, so I decided to build something to organize it better. I designed it in Sketchup so that it uses one 4×8’ sheet of 3/4” plywood, and less than a 4×4’ sheet of 1/4” hardboard. I thought about using 1/2” plywood, but 3/4” was only $3 more, so now I know it’s stout. It has 8 vertical sections for long pieces (2 are 24” deep, 2 are 18” deep, and 4 are 12” deep), three shelves (24×32”, 16×32”, 8×32”), and one long trough for small chunks. Then I put the whole thing on top of the wheeled base of my old dust collector. I hoping this will make it easier to find just the piece I need, especially when I need to do a trial cut/drill/rout on something. Thanks

That is some awesome storage chest. Realy great and all is very accessible and visible. I have lot small pieces to,but my problem is I don’t have any free space in my workshop garage for something like that.

A good scrap storage system goes a long way towards maintaining organization. You did a nice job on this scrap bin.

Each piece is a little “memory” to me. Yet it is time to discard them – how do we choose? (forum question)
