This is my first big project. We bought a big screen TV last fall and we needed a new stand for it. My wife found one that she liked at a furniture store, but I told her I could build one. I have no experience woodworking, so she just laughed at me and told me I could try to build one. So I bought a table saw and router and went to work. I used a set of plans from www.plansnows.com, but modified them to fit my TV. This project included many firsts for me, and I learned a lot in the process. The TV stand is made from cherry plywood and hardwood, and is finished with one coat of boiled linseed oil and then 4 coats of a satin wipe on poly. I am pretty happy with the finished project, but more importantly my wife is happy. Any comments or suggestions on what I should have done differently are appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Very nice. Doesn’t look like a first project to me.
Keep up the good work.

I am new to woodworking as well, so I can’t say too much. The only thing I noticed were the varying gap sizes on doors/drawers.
Other than that, I’d say you should be proud of yourself for accomplishing this. It is rather nice, especially for a first project.
And you learned a few things along the way, including how to modify plans to fit your personal needs too.
Nice work!

nice project!
Having worked with cherry often, I know it can be a challenge to mill pieces with similar color. There is a fairly wide range in color even with the heartwood from dark brown with red to light brown with yellow. You did a nice job with this.

Very nice! No experience and you did this? Very impressive. The main thing you should have done differently was to give it to me. (:

Ambitious project for someone with no experience. You should feel proud!
