Being that we’re a three generation Clemson family and we just won the Natty in football, I thought I would crank out a few boxes for Christmas presents for 2017.
I got some scraps together and went for this prototype to see how it would look. I used pieces of cherry, bubinga and padauk.
So this technique is the where you stack two contrasting woods, saw the same pattern and then swap the parts. Since the Tiger Paw logo, by default, has many jagged edges, it’s a cinch to scroll saw.
Here I had the idea of incorporating the National Championship logo into the box, but it gets kinda busy and messy so I bailed on that idea

Hello Chris,
Thats a pretty paw job if I ever saw one.
A question what did you use as a filler between the pads and the box top?
Add a couple of shots of the hinge arrangement and lock to finish it off.
If thats only the prototype I can bearly wait for a production run. (Opps make that a Tiger Paw)

Great Box!. And If you are still interested in incorporating the Championship Logo (and Date) into the box, may I suggest burning or stenciling it on the inside of the lid? Or will you be lining the box with Clemson colors?
Thanks for posting.

GO TIGERS!
I’m working on a chisel rack this weekend with padauk and purpleheart so I’ll always remember I built it a few months after we won the natty!

Thanks to all for the compliments and great to see fellow Tigers on here! What a time!!!
@robcastle, as for the filler between the pads and box, I used the sawdust and glue technique. Learned much there too! I will have to spend some more time and experiment on mix ratios. One thing is certain that the filler always turns MUCH darker than expected!

Go Tigers! Beautiful box!
I actually like the National Championship logo and thought it was part of the latch.
I made a Tigers cribbage board for my neighbors in NC. I think we were the only Clemson fans in Wilmington…
