Purple heart & maple bowl

I made another bowl that is mostly purple heart with maple accents and maple veneer between the segments. It came out well, but I don’t plan to turn purple heart again if I can help it. It is too hard to carve well, and I sometimes get some tear out at the segment joints. Slowing down the lathe helps. Thanks for taking a look, George

Nice bowl, George. Purple heart is a tough wood to turn sometimes.

Absolutely beautiful.
I love purple heart.
Your colour contrast is excellent.
Thanks for sharing.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

The color and design looks great. I’ve also turned purple heart and it definitely can be tricky to turn but the final result is worth the effort. Nicely done.

I have turned purple heart spindles with not much problem, but turning it with the grain is not pleasant. It is brittle and makes a lot of dust. It sure comes out pretty though. Take care, George
