This was made for some added seating to a lakefront condo. I was given the freedom to try something unique so I decided to torch the wood. Being my first outdoor furniture project I wasn’t well versed in what type of materials can last in Iowa weather.
Everything is made from pine and burned with a blowtorch. I put on 4 coats of spar urethane finish. I would recommend using cedar or treated lumber.

I made this same design right about a year ago, modified for extra hip width, for my wife and I from cedar. I’ve got to say that the burning makes this really outstanding. It’s held up well in Wisconsin through all four seasons.
You might want to consider, if you didn’t do this already, is to let the bottom of the legs soak for a few minutes each in a pan of finish. it will wick up into the legs and protect from moisture better than just a few coats.
Very striking visually. Well done.
