I needed a triangular file for a project. Of course the hardware store files do not come with handles, so I turned a couple using plum. I had to cut this plum tree down a few years ago and decided to save some of the wood for small turnings like these. Plum is wonderful to turn, relatively hard and has vivid purple pink streaks that will probably fade with time. I finished these with beeswax only.

They look great, never have turned any plum.

I would recommend plum for any small turning like this. It is like a cross between cherry and apple. Keep your eyes open for old plum trees that are near the end of their natural lifespan. You won’t regret harvesting some plum!

Beautiful and functional. Well done.
