Space saver rollout

The walk in pantry was getting a little full with two families using it.
So I moved the fridge and freezer across to the right about 9 inches and built this rollout

It has proved to be more than satisfactory, as I did not realize how much it ended up holding, plus the weight when full can get over 100Kg

The bottom frame was made from 90mm x 45mm pine and the one support wheel solid nylon with 12mm shaft through two bearings. Two pieces of metal angle with sloping slots for height adjustment.

The side and shelves of the unit are from 6mm melamine board and pine frame supports. and was assembled with PVA and 18# staples and some particle board screws.

It is attached to the wall with two 600mm long x 60Kg rated drawer slides screwed into hard wood supports. The top slide has a lock mechanism that prevents the unit to roll out unintentionally. It has to be released before you can pull it out and clicks into place when pushed back in.

I overlapped the left hand of the front board past the wall to overcome a double gap and hide the drawer slide.

I used a spray gun and enamel under coat, the finish was spray painted with semi gloss enamel.
it had taken two full days to cut and assemble the unit, around 20 hrs and around the same time to paint
It has been in nearly two years and have had no problems show up.

Nice work! This is a lot of storage in a small amount of space. Congratulations.

That is really neat, and I envy your separate fridge and freezer set up.

That is a great space saving idea, and excellent design.
Well done mate and thanks for sharing.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Have your say...
