In the middle of the night, I was getting ready to head in for the night and pulling all of the trash together so it could go out the next day. I had trimmed off the split ends of several long walnut boards and chucked them in the trash. I kept walking past the can and looking at the scrap, thinking what a waste, but I already have too many small scraps already. I tied up the bag and was head out the door, when something possesed me to take some of the small scraps out. A coping saw and small block plane and an hour later and a clear coat and my wife (a big cat lover) had a small treasure that she loves. Go figure, you can spend two months making something or an hour and she loves them both the same.

That’s really cool. The way you made the two sides the opposite of each other was a stroke of genius!

It was accidental really. I was just going to cut out a simple free-hand cat figure and then do some carving on it. When I went to pull off the outside “scrap” piece, I stopped for some reason and sat it down and it looked kind of different, so I just glued it and left it like it is. Thanks.

I understand about not wanting to throw away wood. It is like throwing away money to me.

That is cool! I love how you just slid the piece out a bit. Makes it very striking, from either side.

I’d love it, too.
