Over the last week I have been working on a lot of hand tools projects to help with making projects. Here is two sets of winding sticks I made to help with flattening boards. These both started from a log that I split, flattened and ripped into the winding stick strips. They have a dowel inlay from poplar. What other “helpers” do you all have for handtool work? I also created a doe’s foot and birdsmouth for helping with rough stock prep as well. If you'd like to see the process check out the video here.

How well does the dark wood and the pronounced horizontal grain show the twist in a board. I think I would have a hard time judging the twist of a board with such dark winding sticks.
