This entertainment was actually finished last month … after many months of procrastination and some really good reasons and a few lame excuses.. Well it is finished now… and has been picked up and is in its new home..
Made from New Guinea Rosewood with Hoop pine for the drawer sides and back.. ply for the back… and bases of the drawers.. the unit is 6 feet long and 2 feet high and a little under 2 feet deep.
Most of the joinery is done with dovetails… variable spaces blind dovetails for the case work and drawers.. sliding dovetails for all uprights and the centre shelf and divider. Both drawers are divided by a partition… all the joints were made using the Leigh D4R dovetailing jig.
The drawers have rails fitted with sliding dividers to hold up the DVDs so they do not fall if the drawer is not full.
Shelf holes were drilled using the Torque Work Centre... as blogged here
Sanded to 240 grit and finished with several coats of Tung Oil Finish. Last pic is before finishing.
More pics of the build can be seen at my other site…. Larry's Workshop
One tip I will give you is to finish all inside surfaces before glue up.. this helps alot… hard to sand and apply finish inside a box…

Nice job Larry. What happened to the PH and Australian Silver Ash? Kinda plain for a LazyLarry project, eh? :-))

Larry: A great looking entertainment center. You don’t provide the 52” tv that goes with it?
If you do I want one.

Man that finish just pops the grain of the NGR. The dovetails look well spaced and very sharp. Nice job as always Larry.

Great looking piece! But shouldn’t there be a Lazy Larry incorporated in it somewhere? :-)

Geeze, and I thought mine was big. Well, I guess it is compared to the size TV that’s gonna go on it, if I ever get it finished…
Yours looks great Larry. Yeah, I agree with Charlie. There should be a turn table on that. And I definetly agree with Matt!
