Here are the finished pictures of the keepsake box I built for my wife for Christmas. I am pretty happy with how it turned out but when I build another one there are few things I would change. The box is made from Birch plywood and Red Oak. I have a solid slabs of Maple that I will use for the trim on the next one.

Nice box there gstephens75. The solid Maple will lift your next project up a notch. Maple is beautiful timber to work with and one oiled ”pops” better than corn.

This is a picture of my missus’s Christmas present…

That woman threw me out of the house and relegated me to the workshop… closely followed by my unappreciated present… ”HAPPY NEW year (to me)!”

Thank you. I was thinking the Maple would be a good upgrade on the next one also. I have been out of woodworking for about 15 years so I wanted to start with a little “cheaper” lumber to practice on.

gstephens, welcome to Lumberland. I liked the projects you built for your wife and daughters. Nice job on your miters. May I suggest you should put a picture on the inside of the box as well. So you can see another picture instead of the back of a picture. Remember to install it upside down from the one on the outside. If you had a stop chain and a less conspicuous way of holding the picture into the frame you could get a two-fer. Keep boxing and keep posting.

Boxguy – I appreciate the suggestions and I like the idea of a second picture on the inside of the lid as well as the stop chain. The wife likes it as well so it looks like I’m going to be doing some design work today to get that second picture installed.
