So I made this desk for my wife for our 5th anniversary. I saw her working on a piece of shelving that she had placed over a few boxes and I thought to myself “Self, you really should build her a desk”. I wanted to make something that was large yet seem light. So the top is about 11/16” thick and the legs are tapered down to about 1 1/8”. The dimensions of the desk are 25” x 38”. The drawer is dovetailed and looks like just an apron when closed. Didn’t want a heavy looking piece of furniture for her. I made this from Walnut and the border around the top is Tiger Maple. The sides and back of the drawer are made from pine. Let me know what you think.

great looking desk, like the “hidden apron” for the drawer, i am always interested in finishes, what kind of finish did you put on your desk to protect?

Very nice I like the design and the finish curious what you finished it with. My guess would be lacquer?

I have gotten some questions about the finish. It was Tung Oil. Formby’s Tung Oil Finish to be exact. It is one of my favorite finishes, particularly when I want the grain to really show.
