After researching the vacuum chuck set ups from the lowest price to the highest, I decided to make my own.
I got lucky and found a used pump on e-bay in the Nashville area for a good price, and saved the shipping which can run as much as $50.00.
Some tubing, gauges, brass fittings and some things from the junk box and it works well pulling 23 inches on the gauge.
I built one chuck and bought the larger one from Woodcraft.
I was a little hesitant to stand to close when I turned my first piece, but it holds so well that I can’t pull the piece off with both hands. i know that some woods will not hold as well as others, so I choose my blanks with that in mine.
