Laser engraved cutting boards, maple with walnut accent strips, 7.5”x11”, finished with a mineral oil and beeswax emulsion.

Earlier this year I learned about the Makerspace at the Cincinnati Public Library that includes a Full Spectrum laser engraver that anyone can use.

After seeing a cutting board with state outline in their sample display, I decided to make my own cutting boards, and then customized the state outlines with a little house for the recipient’s hometown.

This was a fun project and I had a blast playing with the laser engraver and learning a little bit about it’s capabilities.

If you bring your own unfinished wood, the laser engraver is free to use, or they have some 1/8” plywood or acrylic you can purchase there. The laser engraver and vinyl printer are the most popular tools in the Makerspace, they’re booked out weeks in advance most of the time.

I wish I could get my hands on one of those!
