I have started making cutting boards as a way to provide beautiful gifts for family and friends as well as bring in a little more money for my shop.

My first cutting board is not shown as it is being thoroughly enjoyed by my wife by now.

The boards i am showing are the next 4 that I made

The top two are pure walnut and with a touch of sapwood for character.
I left the top board as edge grain because i really loved the way the curl in the walnut looked after i finally got it planed down. This was a gift to my brother and his wife
Second down is pure walnut end grain board that is identical to the one i made for myself. This was a gift to my other brother and his fiance’
Third down was made with Hard maple and purple heart, this was my first time using purple heart and I was shocked at how dense it was. Although this isn’t an original design or wood choice, I loved the way it looked when I applied finish. This was a gift to my parents.
The bottom was a replica of the purple heart board but using walnut instead of purple heart. This had a more rustic feel and made a perfect gift for my wife’s parents who have more rustic tastes.

One huge takeaway from all this, I really need a thickness planer, hand planing all these to be flat became a huge drag.
