Received that from my youngest brother he loves to carve.

Anyone who wants one he makes them but they are not cheap.

The wood used in this gunstock is basically birch plywood. The manufacturer takes 1/16” birch veneers and dies them to the whatever color combination you want, usually 3 colors. Then the colored veneers are layered in alternating colors and saturated in a resin that bonds everything together. Unlike regular plywood the veneers are oriented so that the wood grains go in the same direction. Also the resin increases the strength of the wood and makes it more resistant to moisture.

The laminated wood really comes to life when you start shaping it. Until then it is just looks like a thick piece of plywood.

For more information on the laminated wood and photos just do a computer search for “Laminates Afield”. They are just one of several companies that manufacture this product.

The gun stock is on a Harrington Richardson Stainless single shot rifle in .30-06.

The finish is Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane

I know virtually nothing about guns or gun stocks but I know beautiful wood and beautiful workmanship when I see it. This is quite incredible. I hope you can tell us what kind of wood this is. My only guess is bocote and I am not very confident of that guess.

wow thats beautiful!
i’m pretty sure the wood is called diamond wood, a wood made by gluing a bunch of different colored veneers together.
