This is a fun toy I made for my husband for Christmas. It is an automaton that I made from plans created by Charles Mak and published in Creative Woordworks and Crafts, June, 2012.

Over the years my husband and I and our kids have journeyed to different national parks in the United States. We drove to Maine and Acadia National Park. Our son looked out a car window and saw a moose amble across the highway. I missed it. Later we went to Sequoia National Park in California and saw bears and deer and later again we drove to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. These places are known to be home to moose, but I have never seen one. This automaton is a bit of whimsy to remember our trips, and the absence of moose sitings.

The last three pictures show the mechanism, a crank slider, that makes the moose move up and down.

Finally, I have enclosed a link to YouTube where you can see the automaton in action.

Merry Christmas to all.
