For my parent’s upcoming 50th anniversary I decided to do a little upgrade to a coffee table in my parent’s livingroom. The glass in that table came from the front door in their old house that was built in 1935 and torn down in 1980. I took black walnut we harvested from a tree cut from their farm and built this table. The legs are 2” square, the ring that makes up the surface is 4” wide and a small groove on the inside edge of that ring will hold the oval beveled glass. The legs have a lot of tight curl as well as the curved skirt boards I laminated from 8 strips of walnut. It has a clear poly finish. The top of the table was made from walnut cut in the early 1900’s by my wife’s great-great-grandpa and is still in rough boards. These pieces were from a very wide board and thus has a lot of movement in the grain though there really isn’t much figure as such.

Looks like an heirloom for centuries to come! Heck, some of the wood is already 4 generations old! Great job. Very creative.
