Christmas Coasters

I was able to complete 4 sets of coasters for Christmas gifts this year-set #5 will be done by Sunday morning (hopefully).

The first two sets are for the MIL & SIL, mahogany and maple, walnut and maple. The third set is yellowheart and walnut – for a family fiend that is a U of M graduate-as an MSU grad it was difficult to make them. The 4th set already shipped out to my brother and the 5th set is in clamps right now (for the wife).

To create the inlay I used my CNC with a 60^ v-bit. This is a good way to use up a lot of scraps that I have kept over the years. I choose not to use corner splines to keep a cleaner look. They are 1/2” thick and ~ 4” square. I made the mahogany & walnut 1/8” dowels since they aren’t available anywhere. The bottoms are covered with felt.

I finished with GF seal a cell & 3 coats GF arm-r-seal.

Thanks for looking and Merry Christmas to everyone.

Great looking coaster sets—I’m sure the recipients will really enjoy them!

Awesome inlay Bill, and I would have shared your pain with making the UM ones. Go Green!

Great work for lucky ones with CNC, we others would have to pick scrollsaw – beautiful patterns.
