A Padauk candy bowl I made for my wife. This is my first real lathe project in almost 20 years. I had this piece of Padauk in my shop from a previous project (Red Race Car) and the wife really liked the sapwood on the edge, so onto the lathe it went!
As you can see from the 1 shot, I need to work more on cleaning up my interior tool markings and getting a flatter bottom. It’s actually only a minor fluctuation, but the tung oil really highlights it.
The measurements are 5.5” across the top, 5” across the bottom, 1 7/8” tall and 1 3/8” deep. A bag of Hershey Kisses fits nicely. This was a fun project to work on while getting my chops back a bit on the lathe :) Thanks for looking.

Very nice! Padauk is one of my favorite woods but I don’t think I have ever seen a piece with some sap wood before.

Well done! I turned a similar bowl but wasn’t able to complete it due to a catch that sent it across the garageand into multiple pieces. I’ll have to think of something creative that I could make out of bowl chunks lol Good job on yours though!

Thanks! I really enjoy working with Padauk, I just don’t like how that orange-red sawdust gets into EVEYRTHING LOL.

Nice! I’ve never seen padauk sapwood, I’ll have to look for board with a streak of it. It really highlights the piece.
