My mother, (who only requests crazy themed socks for gifts) came over to the shop last week. She saw an old sewing machine kicking about and said she’d like it if it was in its original cabinet and had a floor lamp by it to use for a reading table. The original cabinet was shot….it was veneer anyways. My mother is one of those unfortunate people who has her birthday close to Christmas….causing her kids to “combine gifts”. This year is no different. I combined the dates and only gave her one gift…but each piece of wood has great meaning between us, especially the chestnut.

Oak, spalted sycamore, chestnut, and maple. Welded up a few parts to incorporate a lamp into the table. Kept the mechanics of the treadle base and the sewing machine in working order so her grandkids can see the mechanics and play.

Great looking reading table, and great story about your mom!
